How do I……..

Search for a Research Topic

Find information about the role of bradykinin receptor antagonists in the modulation of inflammation and pain.

  1. Use the All Text field.  Under the Field content box, type the words:       bradykinin* receptor*.  The asterisks will allow plural (or suffix) forms of the words to be retrieved.  (Alternatively, you can select Starts with in the dropdown menu under Relation and type bradykinin receptor under Field content.)

  1. On the next line, confirm that and is selected as the Operator.  We want to use All Text as the field name.  Click the dropdown menu to the right of the Field name box.  Recently-used fields will appear in the list.  Click to select All Text from the list.  Alternatively, you can type All Text into the field name box. Please note:  All Text is case-sensitive.

  1. Under Field content, type *flam* to retrieve words such as: anti-inflammatory and inflammation.

  1. We don’t want to limit the results to only those containing inflammation-related words since we are equally interested in pain-related words.  On the next line, select Or as the Operator.  Select or type All Text as the Field name.  Type analge* under Field content to retrieve words such as analgetic and analgesia.

  1. On the next line, select Or as the Operator.  Select or type All Text as the Field name.  Type pain under Field content.

  1. We want the query to retrieve hits containing both bradykinin(s) and receptor(s).  We also want the hits to contain at least one of the following: inflammation-type words, analgesia-type words, and pain.  Therefore, you need to place parentheses before *flam* and after pain. Do this by clicking the grey boxes under the { } column headers as shown below:

Please Note:  You can add more words and phrases to your query by selecting the down arrow next to a word in the Field content box. This brings up a list of indexed words for that field.  For example, click the down arrow next to pain.  Doubleclick to add additional words, like painkillers and painful.
